We all have the pair of shorts or crop top that we bought and said to ourselves “when I lose a little more” “I will feel more comfortable to wear them when...” We have them in our drawers haunting us every time we don’t wear them. Maybe we wear them around the house to try to get acquainted in them and decide next time.
I am here to tell you, WEAR THE SHORTS!
First things first, an item of clothing should never make you feel bad or like you are not whole the way you are now. DO NOT let your clothes have this power over you. One thing I like to do is to get rid of anything that makes me feel negative emotions when I open my drawer and see them in there. Donate these clothes! Someone else can enjoy them and you deserve to have a closet of clothes that are all options for you to wear and feel comfortable in.
Next, I fully recognize even though things may fit us we still may not feel like $1,000 bucks in it. You are still allowed to feel nervous or uncomfortable in something that fits you. My hope for you here is that you can start to release these feelings and accept the beautiful body you are in. Even though society, media, and diet culture has led us to believe there is only one “good” way to look. IT IS COMPLETELY FALSE! You are meant to be different than those around you and once you embrace all the AMAZING things your body does for you and the journey it has been on with you will be empowered to flaunt what you got, even if it looks different than what we are bombarded with every day.
So, start small. Start with a something that makes you feel a little anxious to wear out. Wear it around your block while walking the dog, or to the store for a quick trip. Maybe next time you wear it to the gym or to the beach. Start to embrace how amazing your body is, and you will start to shed these negative feelings of imperfection.
YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT. You will soon realize no one is judging you or even looking at you because we are all too concerned with ourselves. Once you do it you will feel strong, powerful, and beautiful in the skin you are in.
So, you just have to #weartheshorts.
